The Giro Ionos is the coolest, most technologically advanced road cycling helmet from the brand. With an exclusive In-mold Composite Sub-frame system (ICS), this helmet easily supports up to 21 huge vents for the best ventilation possible.
These large vents in the Ionos, paired with an advanced network of inner channels provide cyclists with the Wind Tunnel ventilation effect so you can take on even the warmest climbs with no sweat. It also comes equipped with Giro’s Roc Loc 5 fitting system for a safer and easily adjustable fit.
With these excellent features, it’s no wonder why the Ionos is the helmet of choice for grand touring champs like Lance Armstrong.

Roc Loc 5
After over 2-years in the making, Giro has finally launched the Roc Loc 5 fitting system. This revolutionary fitting system gives users a whole new cycling experience with its unrivaled stability, comfort, adjustability, and lightweight features. With the Roc Loc 5, you may quickly dial-in the fit tension and fine tune the vertical position with one hand.
Simply turn the dial to get a tighter fit on those harsh terrains, then twist it back a few notches for a more relaxed feel on warm climbs and flat roads. Aside from these incredible features, Giro’s new Roc Loc 5 is also up to 40% lighter than its older brother, the Rock Loc 4.
Giro designed the Ionos with large built-in vents, which makes it one of the coolest cycling helmets in the market today. With the company’s proprietary ICS or In-mold Composite Sub-frame system, the helmet has the strength needed to support all the 21 massive vents that are purposefully cut into the Giro Ionos.
As a result, this model boasts of 15% more cooling efficiency compared to the Atmos, a.k.a the brand’s former flagship helmet. The stiffness however, is never compromised thanks to the layers of carbon strips found throughout the Ionos, which lets the Ionos pass the stringent CPSC and Snell standards.
Weight and looks
All of these great features come at a price, which is evident on the weighing scale as the medium-sized Ionos tips it at a little over 300g (0.6 lbs). While this isn’t the heaviest by far, it does pose an obvious difference compared to Giro’s Prolight model which weighs in at 195 grams (0.4 lbs) for the same size.
What you get with the 100g difference however, is a stronger, cooler, and more stylish design. The Ionos also boasts of a more sculpted shape, and while it appears to sit deeper on one’s head, the nicely angled cut of the helmet helps eliminate the unwanted “mushroom head” effect.
This Giro Ionos Road Cycling Helmet comes in a wide range of colors, including black/charcoal, matte black/yellow, and matte black/red. There’s also a selection of different color combos to choose from, like the red/grey and blue/white varieties which are complemented nicely with structurally focused carbon strips that flows across the Ionos.
In addition to these color combinations, the Ionos is available in White, Charcoal, Matte Titanium, and a couple of designs inspired by 7-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong. The vast number of color options makes it easy to match with your bike’s color scheme, whether it’s neutral toned or multicolored.
The Giro Ionos Road Cycling Helmet measures 14 by 10 by 8 inches and tips the scales at approximately 300 grams (0.6 pounds). It comes complete with a Winter padding and is covered by the company’s 1-year limited warranty on parts and service.
