Canadian cyclewear manufacturer Louis Garneau has been making reliable, high-performance cycling helmets since 1988. And now, this popular cyclewear innovator embarked on the lightweight helmet market with the introduction of the Louis Garneau helmet, X-Lite model. Tipping the scales at only 195 grams, this model is indeed a lightweight entry, but still passes the strict standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Aside from the impressive weight and CSPC-certified performance, the X-Lite also comes with a number of excellent features such as the robust in-mold construction and MSB technology for increased protection, Spiderlock SL system for easy adjustments on-the-fly, and the removable sealed pads for superior durability and maximum comfort.

Key features of the Louis Garneau helmet
As a premium line of helmet from Louis Garneau, the shell of the X-Lite is in-molded, a special process which fuses together polystyrene and microplastic materials. This combination gives the helmet incredible mechanical properties, such as enhanced impact protection but without the extra weight.
A Ring-shaped MSB reinforcement technology is wrapped around the helmet’s base which spreads the shock evenly and gives that added rigidity in case of an accident.
The minimalistic cradle of the LG X-Lite has a Spiderlock SL rack & pinion system that allows one-handed fit adjustments while on the move. Its soft touch straps feature quick-release adjusters with a simple buckle.
There is also the ultra-light Steplock SL Divider cam-locking mechanism that will let you adjust the strap position in a jiffy. Together, these features provide you with a lightweight and straightforward arrangement that provides the same level of comfort and security just like the more complicated systems from well-known competitors.
Garneau claims that this helmet is one of the lightest there is on the market today. At medium, it only weighs 210 grams, which is approximately 130 grams lighter than Giro’s Torrent 2. The small size is even lighter at only 195 grams, which makes it as light as the more-expensive Giro Prolight.
This ultra-light feature is achieved by the X-Lite’s in-mold construction and Spiderlock SL adjuster, which are both lightweight, and the generous number of vents strategically scattered around the helmet.
Cool and comfy
Aside from giving you improved protection in a more lightweight design, the Louis Garneau X-Lite is also well ventilated. It features a total of 37 sweeping vents that provide that much-needed ventilation when on the road.
There are also evacuation channels that allow the air in front of the helmet to travel through the rear so you can stay cool even under the heat of the sun. You also get maximum comfort and convenience with the removable, washable, and ergonomically-designed Sealed Airdry Pads.
The Louis Garneau X-Lite Road Cycling Helmet comes in small (20-1/2 to 22 inches) medium (22 to 23-1/4 inches), and large (23-1/4 to 24.75 inches). It weighs from 195 grams (6.87 ounces) to 234 grams (8.25 ounces) and is available in five different colors – matte black, gray/pink, gray, red/black, and white/silver. Louis Garneau has the X-Lite covered with a 1-year limited warranty on parts and service.
